I'm having a strange problem with my Wireless on my T42p. Its the IBM/Atheros 802.11a/b/g card.
The card likes to "turn off" by itself. Access Connections looses the ability to control the power state (I get the error message when pressing FN+F5). However, the wireless light remains on.
The only way for me to reset this is for me to go into the wireless card's properties and change the value of "Radio Power" to "Off" from "On." This appears to syncronize the actual state of the radio with what Access Connections thinks the power state is. The radio gets turned on right away again -- with Access Connections powering it.
This normally happens overnight, but I've had it happen during the day as well. I've upgraded and reinstalled Access Connections and the Drivers as provided by IBM.
