Can't install any window for T22. Please help!!

#1 Post by lamtp » Mon Apr 11, 2005 1:20 am

I bought a T22 on Ebay. an off lease laptop. The hard drive has been cleared, only booted to C:\
Here what I did
First, I used the recovery disk of T22 (win 2000) After the setup filed had been copied, the process configuring hardware begun and the laptop was stuck right there. I took out the hard drive and put it in another T22; then I did the same thing. The installation just went smooth. After installation from another T22, I took the hard drive and put it back to the laptop; when window 2000 appeared, the laptop automatically rebooted. After rebooting a couple of time, the laptop was frozen.
I updated the BIOS, and tried to install window 98, win XP from retail CD; but no one went through. The laptop is always frozen, when the hardware configuration start.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong with the laptop?

Thanks in advance

Try the memory modules

#2 Post by NaT » Mon Apr 11, 2005 3:03 am

Is it possible to try exchanging memory modules from another T22 with this one? I used to have similar problem when installing/using Windows 2000 Server IBM Netfinity (now xSeries) when a memory module is defected. Somehow, the off-leased machine may be even used a 3rd party memory that is underspec to upgrade the system to the desired spec.

If you're lucky, you might still have some warranty from the leased company (usually 30 days or so or 1-year optional from IBM leasing).

Hope this help.

Also try reseating the Mini-PCI card.

My suggestion, put your hard disk in other laptop and format it as DOS boot, then copy all win2000 installation files, namely I386, to it. Thereafter you put it back to your laptop and setup win2000 from DOS.

Note that you should also copy some DOS files that needed to boot DOS and manage the memory, here are some of such:
himem.sys -- for RAM management
smartdrv.exe -- to speed up file copying. (IMPORTATN)
Those files can be found under win98 c:\windows\command

Good luck.
