Where are the air intake slots for the T43?

#1 Post by catback » Thu Dec 29, 2011 1:40 pm

Hi,

I sometimes visit construction sites with my T43 as part of my job. Since this can be a dusty environment, I would like to add a small screen or filter over the cooling air intake ports. I can clearly see the exhaust air port on the left side of the laptop next to the headphone jack but I can't seem to find the slots where the air is drawn into the case. Usually these are pretty easy to find either on the underside or back of a laptop but I can't see anything obvious on the T43.

Mostly around the edges of the keyboard. I don't have my T43 with, but I don't recall any vents either.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

The air intake slits are on the bottom, looking from the parallel port, about 2" inward.

There you go...RBS probably has a T43 in front of him right now. You can trust he's right.

Looking at my T43, those slits do seem to function as an intake of sorts, but seem auxiliary to the keyboard edges, which seem to draw the most air (if you run the fan at the highest speed, you can feel with your hand the draw). Unfortunately it will be very hard to put a filter under a keyboard, but the slits on the bottom could do with one and it wouldn't hurt anything.

There is a air intake slot next to the heat vent, but most of them are placed around the laptop's underside.

The fan pulls most of the air through the vents above the headphones and mic jacks.

Only a small amount is pulled through the other vents.
