charge on battery jack won't recognized charge from battery
charge on battery jack won't recognized charge from battery
charge on battery jack built within my T43 ibm thinkpad(not the removable battery) will not recognize any incoming charge from any battery charged adapter that I plug into the battery jack and therefore, ibm thinkpad T43 laptop will not charge properly. It isn't the battery adapter itself because all the battery adapters I used are brand new and the voltage settings for the battery charge adapter and the voltage settings on my laptop are exactly the same. This problem started occurring when I placed a targus battery adapter from my toshiba computer and plugged it into my ibm thinkpad laptop when I initially thought that the reason my ibm think pad wasn't charging was because of a faulty battery charger , because I had this problem in the past. I plugged in the targus battery from my toshiba because the batter heads were similar. However, I never had a problem with my battery jack built within my laptop until now. The voltage settings for my targus battery adapter and the voltage settings for my t43 ibm thinkpad laptop were very dissimilar. Perhaps due to the voltage dissimilarities on the voltage settings for my ibm thinkpad laptop and the voltage settings for my targus battery adapter, that might have caused some power outtage .
How much would it cost me to fixed this problem? Given my limited financial expenses , I do not wish to replace my old laptop with a new laptop. Are there any cheap docking stations for the ibm thinkpad 43 with a battery jack? Is it cheap to replace the battery jack?

It's nothing to do with the battery jack.
You blew the motherboard by inserting a non-IBM charger and a non-IBM battery, it's as simple as that.
And you only made it worse by trying any other battery or charger that came into your hands.
A T43 should only be charged using a 16V/4.5A/72W IBM adapter/charger, nothing else.
Adding a docking station is not going to help, as this is just a 'pass-through' of the ports on the laptop itself.
Whatever does not work on the laptop will also not work through the dock (including power).
The only way to 'fix' that is by replacing the motherboard.
If your machine has an XGA (1024x768) screen (either 14.1" or 15") I may be able to help you out with a compatible motherboard with Intel graphics.
PM me if interested.

It's possible both the main DC in Fuse and the Battery Fuse have both blown.
Have a loot at this doc of typical T4x fuses (T43 may be slightly different configuration).
The ones you need to check are large white coloured fuses F2, and F12 on the underside.
One some laptops (not Thinkpads) they have protection circuits which shut the laptop down if the wrong voltage AC Adapter is used.

well, I didn't insert in a non-ibm batterybecause I never removed my ibm battery, just my thinkpad charger.RealBlackStuff wrote:It's nothing to do with the battery jack.

I looked at my screen and the bottom of my laptop, and so far, have been unable to determine if I have an xga screen . Is it expensive to replace a motherboard? If your machine has an XGA (1024x768) screen (either 14.1" or 15") I may be able to help you out with a compatible motherboard with Intel graphics.

What's the 7-character model number of that T43? Located on the same sticker on the bottom that houses the serial number and production date, should look something like 187?-??? or 26??-???
I agree with RBS that an improper adapter has caused damage, likely pretty serious.
Check the fuses that Nick has pointed to and report back.
Good luck...you'll need it.
