T42p won't run on Dock II after power glitch

#1 Post by plagenz » Mon Apr 11, 2005 3:09 pm

Hi,

My T42p was running on the Dock II when there was a brief power interruption. Although the power came back on almost immediately, the ThinkPad then ran on its battery (not AC) until the battery ran down and the ThinkPad went into hibernation.

Now I can turn on the ThinkPad using the Dock II power switch, but the docking LED on the Dock II does not light up, the Dock II fan does not come on and the pass-through connections on the dock don't work.

The T42p works fine out of the dock, and another ThinkPad works fine in the dock. IBM thinks a power surge may have damaged the dock interface on the T42p system board and would like me to send it in for EZ-Serv. Is there anything else I can try first, since I hate to be without it?

I assume you have turned it off, unplugged everything from the thinkpad and the dock (i mean everything, usb, ethernet....), taken the battery out, let it sit alone, boot the thinkpad up alone, shut it back down, then try docking.

Hi, yes, I've tried these steps and also the "discharge" sequence suggested by IBM (with the battery removed and AC disconnected, press the ThinkPad power switch 10 times and then press it an 11th time and holding it down for 10 seconds).
