Possibly dumb memory question

#1 Post by mikejcmurray » Tue Apr 12, 2005 2:23 am

I have a T22 that could use a little more memory than 128mb and a broken Dell laptop with a 64mb stick. The Dell stick is PC66mhz and the T22 likes PC100. I know from reading a post that the T2x series is notorious for not accepting memory sticks faster than PC100, but is there a chance this slower stick will work? Thanks
T22, nothing fancy

No! The PC66 memory will try to drag the PC100 stick down to it's speed and result in a conflict.

Putting the PC66 stick in with the PC100 stick won't suddenly make the PC66 memory speed up!.

As JHEM says, the 66 block will set the clockspeed for both blocks of RAM. So the IO speed of your RAM will decrease significantly.

As everyone stated, it is not compatible..

As a note- the machine won't have a conflict or run slow- it won't even boot if you put 66 in it..

As another note, runing your T22 with 128MB is a big bottleneck, I would add at least 128 or 256 to it :!:

WRONG
putting 66mhz ram in a 100mhz system will run the ram at 100, which will cause.... locking up, data errors, and possibly not to boot. Try to overclock a 2ghz chip to a 3ghz chip (50% same as the 66 to 100), if your lucky it will post, but it will never make it into windows and might take the machine down with it

DON'T DO IT

spend the 50-70 bucks and buy a 256 dimm... you will be happy you did
