How to update BIOS with ECP 3.04 for T40/1/2 and R50/1

When you try to update the BIOS for T40/1/2 and R50/1 with Embedded Control Program 3.04, you will find that neither the CD version nor the floppy version works.
It hangs indefinitely while trying to read the update program.
I have messed about a bit with this problem and found a working solution, using the floppy versions of different models.
Invest a few $$ in an external IBM/Lenovo External USB floppy drive: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... usb+floppy
About $15.- on eBay. Well worth it, since you can use it on any Thinkpad.

Create a floppy using 1RHJ10UD.EXE from Lenovo: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... hj10ud.exe
(this is the official Lenovo download for ECP 3.04)
From that floppy, copy to USB-key or hard disk:
- $0180000.FL2
- PROD.DAT

Re-use that same floppy, create it using 70HJ05UD.EXE from Lenovo: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... hj05ud.exe
(this is the official Lenovo download for an older ECP 1.05 for the R52 with Intel graphics)
From that floppy, delete:
- $0199000.FL2
- PROD.DA2
- PROD.DAT
Then copy the previously saved files onto this floppy:
- $0180000.FL2
- PROD.DAT
Mark it as ECP 3.04 for T40/p, T41/p, T42/p, R50/p and R51 1829-1830-1831-1836
Enjoy a working ECP update. Finally!
