Question about undervolting

#1 Post by catback » Wed Jan 25, 2012 1:08 am

I have successfully undervolted a T43 2668 using RMClock and seen a significant increase in battery life as a result. I understand the concept of undervolting is to continue to allow the cpu to throttle between it's lowest and highest frequency but each step will now have a decreased voltage requirement.

My question is, would there be an increase in power savings by simply locking the cpu to it's lowest frequency (800 MHz for the T43), in addition to lowering the voltage requirement at this frequency? I understand this may not be ideal for cpu intensive operations but for web browsing or word processing tasks, it seems this route would provide the maximum level of power savings.

No, it would actually shorten the battery life because CPU would spend less time in deep sleep modes (it takes more time to do the x amount of work with lower clock frequency).
