T42 with limited signs of life...

#1 Post by ichhabegedroppen » Mon Jan 30, 2012 1:53 pm

The T42 appears to only be able to charge a battery. when plugged in with a battery installed, the green/orange battery icon lights up, but thats it.

Pressing the power button does nothing, I have tested the keyboard on another Thinkpad, and its a fully working keyboard. So i took it apart to check the DC jack voltage, and discovered the voltage went from the correct ~16V nothing every now and then with movement of the power cable.

So i swapped out the DC jack with another one, tested the DC Jack, and re-assembled to find the Thinkpad is still as dead.

I am guessing that a fuse has gone, but it would be great if someone here could give me an idea as to whether i'm looking in the right direction, or whether there is a similar overcharged capacitor scenario as on the T6x series.

A Fuses Document is here. Worth checking first.
