T40p re-assembly question

#1 Post by kge420 » Wed Feb 01, 2012 9:39 am

I have a few more changes to make on my T40p before I consider it 'finished'. I need to replace the fan and want to swap the lcd from XGA to SXGA+.
Question: Do any of you use a thread locking compound (ie locktite) when re-assembling your machines? I have had several apart for various reasons and have never used any. After a period of time I have had to go over the case screws on this T40p and re-tighten some due to squeaks.
Thanks, Keith

I don't use any of that stuff...and haven't noticed much squeaking, honestly...YMMV

I was curious because the screws that I remove have some (blue/red) thread compound on them.

I honestly doubt that that's the way IBM had it in the first place...but what do I know... :??:

Unless it is for yourself, and you are very particular about your machine(s) I wouldn't bother.
If you use the wrong kind of Loctite, you'll have a heck of a time reopening it in future!
Not worth the hassle if you ask me.

Question answered by two Thinkpad gurus. Thanks for the advice, Keith
