T42 Touchpad compatible across all models?

I've got a t42 with an integrated fingerprint reader in the palmrest, and I cam across a t42 with a touch pad that was OEM rough!

Are the touchpads swappable across the t4X line regardless if one has a fingerprint reader or not?

Let's be sure we are talking about the same here; if you look at the System service parts - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p then the "Palm rest assembly" is obviously different for the 14.1" and the 15" systems (different width!).

If we are however talking about the touchpad (having IBM FRU = 93P4696) then this touchpad is the same for 14.1" as well as for 15" T42's. Your T42 will work just fine regardless of the fingerprint-reader being attached or not.

Hello yes, it's just the touch pad i'm interested. They're both 14" laptops, but one has a fingerprint reader and the other doesnt.

No. Only a few T42 motherboards have the biometric coprocessor needed for the fingerprint sensor. (All T43 and later motherboards have one.) You can move a palmrest without a FP sensor anywhere, but the one with FP won't work without the optional hardware.
