I put a supervisor, hard drive and power on password on a laptop. I've switched out the drive, and I now want to remove the power on and supervisor password.
How do I do that. When I go the the password section, there are no options for me to start 'unabling' the passwords. Is there a different section I can go to?
It's tellin me that the items cannot be modified in user mode.
Is there a supervisor mode?
I used f1 to get into the setup utility. Is this something where I should instead press the access IBM button?

Re: Remove Supervisor Password Bios t42
Well I found out that you can enter the supervisor password at the power on password.
Unfortunately, I followed this instruction first:
I believe that for the T4x systems you press the F1 key when the system is powered up. If that doesn't prompt you for the supervisor password or allow you to enter the BIOS setup screen, then try the blue Access IBM key.
If you remove the CMOS (backup) battery that will get rid of the power-on password. If you also have a supervisor password enabled, then the next time the system is powered on, it should prompt you to enter the supervisor password (because the date and time was lost).
Unfortunately, it does say that the date and time were lost, but it then also says that the system has been tampered with.
I'm hoping that leaving it unplugged overnight and trying again tomorrow will do something.

Re: Remove Supervisor Password Bios t42
By removing the CMOS battery, you have now set a permanent POP, which might be the same as the SVP.
Put the CMOS back in, power on, press F1 to go to BIOS.
Enter your SVP if/when asked.
When in BIOS, set Date/Time.
Now go to Security/Password, and first click on Power-On Password, enter POP, hit Enter-key thrice without typing in anything, confirm, done (if POP doesn't work, try SVP instead).
Now click on Supervisor Password, enter SVP, hit Enter-key thrice without typing in anything, confirm, done.
And then stop playing with things you do not understand!
