T43p motherboard in T43?
Hey guys, I'm new to Thinkpad ownership and don't know much about the Thinkpad yet. Well I bought a T43 off eBay for $20 "as is". The description just said "No AC Adapter" so I was hopeful that it worked. Well when I got it it had no Hard Drive and it wouldn't get past the Boot screen with the IBM logo. So I did my research and decided that my Mobo was probably screwed because of the GPU (I'm familiar with GPU failure, as I had 3 iBooks fail because of that) but anyway I've been cruising eBay looking for a new Mobo to try and get a decent priced replacement. I've found a few T43p motherboards and I just wanted to know if I could successfully drop one in my regular T43? What would be the differences?

Welcome to the forum!
T43p board is "plug & play" in any T43 shell. It's really that simple. No mods needed.
Happy upgrading.

Or you can put in an IBM R52 motherboard as well.
The R52 with ATI graphics will power any LCD.
The R52 with Intel graphics will only power an XGA LCD (any size) or an SXGA+ LCD (only in 15", not 14.1").
I have some R52/Intel mobos available. They are all tested and working.
$60.- incl. shipping within USA.
Payment via USPS MO or PayPal (but add 3%).
PM me if interested.
PS: there is no difference in motherboard between 14.1" and 15" machines.

You even don't need to reinstall your current HDD, because both (T43 and T43p) uses the same hardware abstraction layer. Simply plug&play
Current: T420
