t40p with sl7em and 50* C. Is is normal?
Hello,
I have replaced CPU to SL7EM in my t40p and I am observing temperature at 50*-60* Celsius at the idle.
Is it normal?
I would like to avoid overheating. Maybe the thermal paste layer is too low?

Did you clean the old gunk off and put fresh thermal paste (Arctic Silver 5 is one of the best) on the CPU?
Just the thinnest of layer is enough.
With AS5 it shouldn't be any higher than 40-45 degrees C. while idling.

probably I have forgotten to add one important thing - I am using tpfc with manual speed 7 fixed all time.
Should I open the computer case again?
Is it possible, that my new CPU has disadvantage and this is cause overheating?

Something wrong with that picture. Way too high for a machine with TPFC constantly on manual/7.
Open the machine up, clean the CPU and heatsink, re-apply the thermal paste (very thin) and make sure that heatsink and CPU have proper contact.
Good luck.

Re: t40p with sl7em and 50* C. Is is normal?
I doubt that the CPU itself is the problem.
Poor fitting is far likely to cause an increase in the temperatures.
What temps are you getting when you run TPFC in the "smart" mode?

A few drops???
You only need AS5 in the size of ONE rice corn, no more!
Spread that out evenly with a credit card or similar.

Using a SL7EN in my T40p and temps for an average session of music and web reading are around 41-43c. Used AS5 when the cpu was installed. RBS is correct when he says a small amount. Be sure both mating surfaces are clean.
