weird t41 bootup problem

#1 Post by scottiecargo » Wed Mar 07, 2012 2:55 pm

my t41 will only boot up with the battery in, but not the ac adapter plugged in. if i try to boot with the ac adapter plugged in and the battery together it just powers on but blank screen.... also if i take the battery out and power it on with just the ac power cord ,lights just blink... so basically if i power on with out battery in (no startup) lights just blinks and i can hear fan... but when i power on laptop without power cord and just battery (it powers on easy) i need help

That is weird. I have found that most, but certainly not all, weirdness on these T4x machines is due to SouthBridge and/or GPU BGA failure. You might go through the usually procedure for checking those things, and if that doesn't isolate the problem, they could still be at fault.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Did you solve the problem?

I have exactly the same issue.
T41 starts on battery with power supply plugged off.
When power supply is plugged-in (with or w/o battery) it doesn't start.

What is standard procedure to isolate SouthBridge and/or GPU issue?
