checking memory

this might be a dumb question, but how do I check if all my slots are used up for my memory other than opening up the laptop from the back? For ie, if I have 512 mb, how do I check if I have TWO 256mb or ONE 512mb ? thanks.

What MODEL Thinkpad?

You could always just run SiSoft Sandra: http://www.sisoftware.net/
