Why does IBM list two different 11a\b\g upgrade cards
Why does IBM list two different 11a\b\g upgrade cards
After purchasing my T42 2378FVU I now find I need 8011,A. From what I can tell my Thinkpad is upgradeable to an A,B,G card. Can any one tell me if their is any difference between the below two cards other than price?

I believe there is no functional difference between the cards, so it would make sense to get the less expensive one.
The $99 card is the one that I have, and uses the Atheros AR5001X+ chipset, while the $65 card uses a newer Atheros chipset (I am not sure which one). The newer card is probably cheaper because the latest Atheros chipsets integrate the entire WiFi system into 1 or 2 chips, whereas the $99 card required a 3-chip set.

Hi
Hi,
I somewhere read in this forum that II card is better than I card.
Reasons:
When connected in 802.11g, I card frequent drops the connection and switches back to 802.11b. But, the intel new cards with 802.11g & IBM II card dodn't have this problem.
regards
Parthiban.

Glad I could help, jmt
v_parthi - Where did you read that the version I card has problems in 802.11g? I've been using mine with 802.11g networks for more than a year and I've had no problems at all.

hi
Hi,
Very hard to find an old post. 802.11g to b fall back occurs with specific routers. I myself own I card with T41p, and had problems with netgear router once.
According to the post, II card with updated drivers was better for superG than I card as well.
regards
Parthiban
