T42 to T43?

#1 Post by edik » Wed Apr 18, 2012 11:56 am

Hi

I have an XGA 14" T42, ATI, 2373-8RG... working fine.

I also have a T43 15" fingerprint reader version (2668-CTO possibly with an SXGA+ screen) that has a faulty fan, and also BIOS password, so effectively the motherboard is junk for me.

Can I place the T42 motherboard into the T43 housing and use the larger 15" screen?

The T43 case seems quite a bit larger and heavier than the T42.. any physical issues?

Many thanks, sorry if this has been asked before, I did search.

Yes you can! You will have to use the RAM and CPU from the T42, but the board will fit just fine.

Thanks Neil

I guess the video card connector is the same, but what about driving an SXGA+ screen with an non SXGA+ motherboard? Or doesn't that matter?

Also the fingerprint reader I assume won't work at all (not that I'll ever use it!)

Yes, the connectors are the same. It's only the R51 motherboards with Intel graphics that won't drive high rez screens. Your Radeon 7500 will. FPR should work too, but I wouldn't ever use it either.

Not all T42 mobos can handle an FPR.
If you look under the palmrest, you see a small 'film' going from touchpad to FPR. On the FPR board, you should see a small slider over where the film comes into the FPR board. Move that slider to the right and then you can carefully pull out the film, thus disconnecting the FPR. Tape the loose film to the inside of the palmrest.

Ooops I made a huge mistake... I mean't to say *T41* not *T42* -> T43

So I guess moving a T41 mobo to T43 is the same process, I apologize for the mistake. (I now realize the Fingerprint reader won't work on the T41!)
