IBM Software Updater broke wireless encryption

#1 Post by jonathanmedwards » Mon Apr 18, 2005 8:20 pm

After running the IBM Software Updater, I can no longer connect to my encrypted wireless network. (Via Intel wireless card in T30) I have repeatedly tried resetting the keys, and occasionally get through, but every time I reboot, I lose access. It is as if something is mangling the key. I have tried setting the key in both Access Connections, and this new Intel wireless lan utility that got installed, but nothing works. Any help please?

My work T30 had the same problem after running the Software Updater - can no longer connect via wireless and I wasn't using encryption in the first place. The Software Updater is [censored] as far as I'm concerned

If you can, roll back your drivers to the previous version.

When I run the software installer on my X40, it wants me to download all kinds of things, including the new version of Access Connections, new wireless drivers and the Chipset update. I decline all three everytime.

For things such as hotkey drivers or trackpoint stuff or even presentation director, I'll let it go ahead and download, but I don't monkey around with wireless stuff until I'm confident about its performance.

Make sure your IBM PM Service is set to Automatic, and that TPHKMGR is a running process.

I fixed this problem by uninstalling Access Connections and using normal Windows wireless configuration.
