#1 Post by AdaSch » Thu May 24, 2012 6:30 pm

Hi thinkpads fans,

i need install internal 3h/hspda modem.

my plan is 8)
buy simply usb modem, use his small mainboard with sim card and hide it in chassis t43

but

i looking where i can plug it in free not used usb ports
i have 2 ports on side laptop, 4 in doc
but 82801FBM have 8 ports

anyone know where i can solder additional usb devices?

cheers

p.s.
i have modem in pcmcia, but antene is too big. I can hide antene inside laptop
W500 @ T9900, 7K750, 2GB ITM as TMP
now W500, W700, X301, X120e,T43p
before T23, T40, T43p*2, T61p*3 (I hate Nvidia),
Total solution for absolutely ZERO oscillatory noise in t4x

Hi there, I know your not a native English speaker but I think you have everyone confused. Do you want to solder an extra usb port on the motherboard?

Burns234 - The way I read it, he's saying that the chipset supports eight USB ports, but only six are populated. He wants to wire up a USB modem internally on the machine and use one of the two unpopulated USB lines to connect it. What he wants to know is where the two unused USB lines are so that he can solder the connections for his new modem.

AdaSch - If I had to take a guess, I'd say to check out the docking connector, but I've never seen a pinout for it, so you'll be doing some fun circuit tracing.

The last thing I'd ever contemplate doing on a T43/p is adding anything that stresses the already overloaded SouthBridge chip even more.

The dock has a USB hub, so it actually utilizes only one port on the southbridge.

One goes to the optional Bluetooth module, one to the fingerprint reader.

This should leave 3 ports available, but just because the chipset supports them does not necessarily mean that they were actually implemented on this particular board...
