I have the hard drive in a proper enclosure, it shows up on the Mac (running 10.6), but when I go to get the documents, my user file is not visible, the other user (Eve) is there as well as "guest". I have removed the password for logging in and now think that I need to do something about permissions.
While the drive is in the T43(running Windows 7, Home professional, 32-bit) I right click the C; drive, go to properties, then security, and get a list of group or user names that has: Authenticated users, SYSTEM, Administrators (Stuartf-PC\administrator (that's me) and USERS (Stuartf-PC\USERS
Some comments elsewhere indicate that I need to change the permissions in order to see the Steve-PC\USERS docs while the drive is in the external mode.)
When I g to edit permissions, if I give Authenticated users full control, will that sove tis problem. I have hesitated because I get a warning that changing permissions in the root directory may give me problems with security (that is ok by me) but also "unexpected access problems", not OK.
Any hints on how to proceed?

Re: T43 expiring, trying to move files to Macbook
I don't know much about Windows networking anymore, but if you can't get it working I'd recommend a USB->IDE adapter. They're usually under $10 or so on eBay and the like, and it'll likely be faster than copying the files over the network. Plus, it's a useful thing to have around. (Or at least it is for me. Which, come to think of it, might say something about my life...)
Need help with Linux or FreeBSD? Catch me on IRC: I'm ThinkRob on FreeNode and EFnet.

Re: T43 expiring, trying to move files to Macbook
That was the method I was using, sorry if I confsed things and imlied I was using a network.
After some additional efforts, I threw in the towel and copied the files from the T43 to an external drive and then used that drive to copy them to the Mac. An extra step, but it went smoothly and I am now, for better or worse, fully on the Macbook. Using a computer where "it just works"
I find that it actually doesn't. I am looking forward to an improved screen offering on the x230 and then I am back in the fold.
