I am NOT a happy camper

#1 Post by rocketman » Thu Apr 21, 2005 9:35 am

I just received my T43p 5 minutes ago. Full of anticipation I set it up, open the lid and find blotches of what looks like glue on the display. I called IBM immediately but it is now out of stock (2668-G2U) so they can't do a swap. This is after wiating almost 8 weeks. I know things happen but I'm turned off.

They should put your replacement system on priority (top of the queue). Escalate.

You have to wonder how can a machine with such OBVIOUS defect can get through QA.

A hard to spot dead pixel, I can understand - A blob of glue of the screen, I don't...

Exactly what I thought when I saw it.

If it's a blob of glue, can't you just wipe it off and get on with life?

Depends on what kind of stuff it really is. If it's water soluble and not corrosive, it shouldn't be a problem. However, we don't know what it is exactly.

Ture, but still, I'd just wipe it off. Unless it's peranently stuck and/or marred the screen in any way, I don't see what the point in waiting days and possibly weeks for a new machine is when you can spend 20 seconds wiping it off.

First of all I'm not going to take a chance of damaging the display further. It does not look like something that can just be "wiped off" it is stuck on the display and it is in more than one place.

Yes yes yes, but has he tried to wipe it off? If it's easy to get off then I don't see a problem here.....

New display costs $900. When he will try to wipe it off, he could damage it. It is a risky job ... If he will try to clean it IBM can classify it as an "accidental damage" not covered by a warranty, skyhigh joke.

rocketman: can you post here some photos ?

I would but I gave my digital camera to my brother in law for vacation. As a matter of fact the person I spoke to at IBM suggested that I not try to remove it.

I agree with Leon's earlier suggestion: escalate.
Demand to speak to the highest ranking supervisor on duty.
Tell them you need a notebook ASAP, and ask how quickly that can be done.
