Thinkpad brightness level differ when running on Batter

#1 Post by Sirnice » Fri Apr 22, 2005 6:21 pm

Hello all,

I just received my Thinkpad t42 two days ago. I'm a little disappointed with the brightness issue of the LCD. (14.1 SXGA 1400 x 1050).
I compare the t42 against my dell 600m (same resolution screen). When both running on battery, the Dell is a lot brighter with both system at the brightest setting but when I plug them in they're about the same.

My question is, How do I get the T42 to that level of brightness without plug in the AC adaptor? I know it'll use up more battery but I can't stand how dim it is when running on battery. I called IBM and they were no help so hoping some experts here can help me to get around this.
I'm considering returning the system because to me the screen is the most important element on the notebook.

Thanks

Go to Thinkpad Configurations -> Display -> LCD.
Change the Brightness to High.

Also can be done in the BIOS.
Config -> Display -> Brightness.

At least, this works on my T23.

I wonder if you can make different power schemes that allow you to select between the high-power backlight and the low-power backlight, so that when you are in dim settings you can spare the battery?

You can set up your own personal power scheme for when on battery power. If you need to adjust the brightness it is a simple keyboard click by using the Fn Home and Fn End key combinations.

If the default brightness and color saturation is not adequate for you then you can fine tune and adjust the brightness, contrast, and gamma even further by clicking on Display Properties, then Settings, then Advanced. then ATI Color.
