Jumbo Packets on a T Series?

#1 Post by excession » Fri Apr 22, 2005 10:47 pm

I am looking for a T Series Thinkpad that has a Gigabit Ethernet adapter which supports jumbo packets (MTU >= 9000). Can anyone confirm whether there is a model? I noticed that the adapter manufacturer changes from T42 to T43. I called pre-sales support and they weren't able to answer my question.

Thanks,
SA

Hi, As far as I know Jumbo packets are something you can enable in most of today's GBE cards, including the IntelPRO/1000 and such GBE ports that T40's have. (just verified mine).
760CD -> 770X -> 600E -> T23 -> T40 -> T42 -> T400 -> T430

I appreciate your data point from a T40. What adapter does it have?

My experience with Gigabit-enabled laptops shows spotty coverage for Jumbo packets. My current laptop is a Dell Precision M70, supposedly their top of the workstation laptop, yet it does not support Jumbo packets (none of the Broadcom adapters do). I've got permission to get another, provided it does support Jumbo. But I'd like some verification that it does support them. I've called IBM and they couldn't answer my question.

Any first-hand knowledge on the T42 or T43?

Thanks!

Hi, my T40 adapter is the "IntelPRO/1000 MT Mobile connection" and you can enable jumbo packets through device manager.

I have a 2373-GVU (T42p) and just checked the Intel Pro 1000 MT mobile adapter in the device manager and there is a setting for jumbo frames with the following choices;
Disabled
9014 Bytes
4088 Bytes
16128 Bytes
Hope this answers your question.
