Performance boosts
What settings should i have my T40 set at to gain the most performance. Especially with the virtual memory.
I mainly suf teh net, do word processing, and occasioanlly use adobe premier, photshop, and some games.
I know this is not teh best laptop to do theese things on, but I am in no place to get a different laptop right now.

performance boost
Hello,
here are some registry changes i applyed to my ACER Travelmate (but it's a general windows setting...)
Be careful the following code is to apply at your own risks...
Paste the following in a text file that u will rename in boost.reg (or what_you_want.reg) and execute it
The first modification is to force windows to keep kernel and drivers in the ram.
The second is to avoid windows to defrag all the time the system files (waste of time if you defragment yourself from time to time)
the third is to avoid windows to store the date of last access in each file it reads (--> system file is faster)
The forth is the best one. It's the one that made my laptop always never swap. But be careful : I've tried this last modification on laptops with 512mb of RAM --> blue screen... You MUST have 1024mb of RAM. But as I see in your signature you have...
Enjoy at least as I enjoyed

Here (in my opinion) is one of the most comprehensive articles concerning virtual memory:
http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.asp ... 143&pgno=0
It's a lot to read but it has TONS of information regarding everything you want to know about virtual memory.
You can also try this site as well:
http://www.theeldergeek.com/paging_file.htm
This has a good guideline on how big the paging file should be depending on the amount of RAM you have and what kind of programs you run.

Re: performance boost
There is a error in the code above.
To disable the paging executive, the .reg entry should look like this:nrj45 wrote:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"DisablePagingExecutive"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"DisablePagingExecutive"=dword:00000001
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
