I tried to buy a stick of 256mb memory and after trying at least 12 different sticks of memory (new, used, PC100, PC133), finally found one my T22 didn't reject. From what I've read on this site, my experience wasn't very unusual.
Good advice. If you're eBaying, there are a couple of things you can do. If the IBM FRU is given is compatible, OK. If the memory is Kingston, check the Kingston part # for compatibility on their site. If the auction says the stick is a pull from a T22, that's a good sign. If the picture of the stick shows 8 chips on the side and there's an IBM sticker on it, that's also a good sign. Beware the generic description "for Dell, IBM, Compaq, etc."
I bought two 256MB sticks from different vendors on eBay and both work fine, so it can be done.
