Do IBM Brand PC133 Memory fit an IBM T22 ?

#1 Post by sloomy » Tue Apr 26, 2005 4:33 am

Hi

I have bought me 2x256mb PC133 original IBM memory rams, but if i put them in my IBM T22 with Pentium3 900. the screens remains blank.

Are these rams not usable with IBM T22 ? i know, IBM T22 ahs 100 mhz FSB, but i thought, all PC133 rams can also run @ 100 mhz..

It´s the amount of RAM-banks on the stick... newer RAM has too much RAM on one of each banks. there is some rare 133er RAM which has the full RAM size defined by 16 x banks or so, this ones will work on T22. if the RAM-density is too high it won´t work in your T22

I was looking for CL2 RAM for my T22 and gave up. I use standard 100ers..

No sloomy, you can't use them.

The T20, T21 and T22 all require lo-density 256MB sticks which have 8 memory chips per side and should look like this:

The sticks you have will work fine in a T23 and perhaps you could sell them here in the For Sale Forum.

Nope, too bad, too because it's a sweet price for ebay PC100 256MB sticks, from a reputable seller.

As someone who just purchased a stick of PC100 memory for my T22 I'd caution purchasing any memory until you know it works in your actual computer. I tried to buy a stick of 256mb memory and after trying at least 12 different sticks of memory (new, used, PC100, PC133), finally found one my T22 didn't reject. From what I've read on this site, my experience wasn't very unusual.

Good advice. If you're eBaying, there are a couple of things you can do. If the IBM FRU is given is compatible, OK. If the memory is Kingston, check the Kingston part # for compatibility on their site. If the auction says the stick is a pull from a T22, that's a good sign. If the picture of the stick shows 8 chips on the side and there's an IBM sticker on it, that's also a good sign. Beware the generic description "for Dell, IBM, Compaq, etc."

I bought two 256MB sticks from different vendors on eBay and both work fine, so it can be done.
