CPU running at Full-Speed when idle
CPU running at Full-Speed when idle
Hi all,
I noticed that my centrino CPU is running at full-speed (1.7Ghz) even when its idle. i am not running anything .. only mcafee antivirus, 2200bg wlan and zonealarm are the programs running. If i unplug the AC adaptor it runs at 600MHz.
I am using mobilemeter to see the speed. I dunno if this is normal or not but i hate to have a hot laptop in my lap even when i am "just browsing the net".
I recently did a clean WindowsXP install without the IBM recovery discs.
I followed instructions here:
http://www.4saad.com/WhatsNew/Fresh_XP_Install/
Maybe i forgot to install some critical intel applications required for speed-stepping? I installed the intel application accelerator though.
Thanks in advance,
Ramesh

Re: CPU running at Full-Speed when idle
Check your Power settings in Control Panel. The Power schemes is probably set to High Sytem Performance. You can also install IBM's great power management utility Battery MaxiMiser. BTW, Intel's SpeedStep is already included with Windows XP.
