As far as I can tell your TP doesn't have a BT antenna built in, but you can add it yourself. You can leave the cable under the keyboard. The reception will be a bit less, but still OK.

The parts you need:

BT/modem card for T42/p: FRU 91P7319
Bluetooth wireless antenna assembly (XGA): FRU 13N5515
Tape on Bluetooth wireless antenna (XGA): FRU 13N5105
Clear Plate for T42/p: FRU 13R2455

You can order them here (the website will be back on Sunday) or by phone.

Hello and thanks G-man for the part numbers. I'd also like to add Bluetooth to my T42P and believe the two things I require are:

Bluetooth modem - FRU 91P7319
Clear Plate - FRU 13R2455

I have not opened up my Thinkpad but I believe the antenna is already installed?
I have tried to order the above to parts via IBM's websight for the past week. The modem P/N is recognized no problem but I get a failure msg saying the clear plate p/n 13R2455 is no good ("The part number you have entered is either incorrect or cannot be found. Please re-enter the number, or enter another number and try again.")? Any ideas? I would phone IBM but I am presently offshore where phone calls by satelitte are a little steep. Of course IBM refuses to reply to e-mail.

Thanks

Those part numbers are correct. The IBM part order site cannot recognize dozens of part numbers. Just order them by phone.

BTW, are you sure about your TP's model number? Especially in the first 4 digits?

Russ,

I just checked your TP (with your "new" model number  ) and yes, you have the BT antenna installed.

Does the 2378-FVU have a BT antenna installed?

great, so all I'd need is the modem, a faceplate, and a cellular phone/plan that makes it worth it.

Would i need the antenna? also how much are the parts, and how easy are they to install. I am comfortable with this type of stuff as i upgraded my processor.
