changing screen resolution

#1 Post by aamadi » Sat Apr 30, 2005 9:28 am

I don't understand why people are saying that buying a laptop with 1600x1200 resolution is bad because everything is too small. Couldn't you just adjust the resolution under display properties to a 1400x1050 if you want? Does this not work properly or something? I was under the impression that buying a 1600x1200 at least gives you the OPTION of a higher resolution, just in case you might need it. So I don't see a disadvantage. Am I missing something?

It's about size vs. quality. Here's rule 1: if you want the sharpest, clearest quality, it's always best to use an LCD display at its native resolution. Sure, you can adjust Windows to a lower resolution, but it will look blurry on a higher-resolution LCD.

That said, one could always keep the resolution native and high, but adjust the fonts in Windows so that they appear larger.

I have found that the best thing is to adjust to the real dpi under:
display Properties->Settings->Advanced->General->DPI setting

Use a 'Custom setting' I have mine set to 125dpi

And use the new microsoft 'ClearType tuner' to adjust the anti-aliasing of fonts for lcd display.
