Faulty T43 delivered

My new T43 (UC384GE, 2668-84G) did not work a single day. It shows an error message just after the IBM opening screen stating a "fan error" message - then it shuts down immediately. The vendor wants me to get a repair from the IBM service. I am not sure if i should have it repaired or try to get a completely new device - considering that it should work for several years but cannot stand the transport from IBM to my home. I wonder if somebody else also had this problem, especially with the new T43s.

Where are you in the world? Depending on what country you are in, you should be able to return the unit to the vendor.

I would not send the unit to IBM for service. You got a lemon and deserve a brand new machine.

Karsten,

As you're in Germany you shouldn't have any difficulty returning this unit to the dealer for a complete refund or replacement.

Do NOT send it in for IBM repair! While they do an excellent job in DE (arguably the best in EU) there's no reason that you should have to deal with waiting for a repair on a brand new machine. Make the dealer replace it.

Thank you very much for the answer - i will not send it to IBM. In Germany i can return the Thinkpad within 14 days and get the money back without stating any reasons. However, i hope that the dealer will offer a replacement with a new one as i got a very good price on this.
