Need help finding a tutorial for changing screen harness.
I've been searching for a couple days and cannot seem to come up with anything. I need to know how the wiring harness that goes between the screen and the motherboard connects/reconnects to the back of the screen. I've got that feeling that if I guess, I'll screw it up for sure.
I'm sure there is a "how to" out there somewhere.... I just can't find it. Please help. Thanks.

Re: Need help finding a tutorial for changing screen harness.
I must have reconnected this wiring harness because I changed a screen once. Here's how I did it.
First of all, be aware during dis-assembly that most of the screws to dismantle the screen are covered by little black dots that must be lightly pried up, perhaps with a pen-knife. They can later be pasted down with elmer's glue or silicone glue.
Second, I recommend that you get plenty of masking tape, and take pieces of tape and wrap it into loops. Lay out an area of the table that is your "figurative" screen diagram. For each screw you remove, tape it down onto the table in the corresponding place on the table. This will help immensely when it is time to reassemble the screen. I recommend that you do the work on a table with a cloth tablecloth, to reduce the change that a screw gets away from you and slides off the table.
Also, a pocket camera can be helpful, to take photographs of the wire routing, after you e.g. remove the screen bezel. I didn't do this but I wish I had done it originally!
It took me exactly 13 attempts (and about 2.5 hours) to replace my screen and get all the wires routed correctly after I had replaced the screen. I took plenty of coffee breaks (literally - about 3!) to cool my temper because several times, I was ready to smash our T42 !! But eventually it all worked out and we got plenty of extra years of service out of that laptop. The only really complicated thing is the way to route the cables around the screen bezel. The wiring harness connects to the screen with a regular connector plug. You can see pictures of the plug on EBay auctions for wiring harnesses, if you don't have one already.
If you have already taken apart the screen, and have forgotten the polarity of the connector, I do not remember a problem here - there is normally a very small tab near the center of the connector (& similar open-space in the socket) that prevents the connector from going together in the wrong way. You should look at the connector and plug to make certain the tab is oriented in the right away, as it's often possible to force the connector together with the tab in the wrong orientation.
Best wishes and good luck!! - Don

Lots of thinkpads (10+) but I would never be so stupid as to list them all because that would spam everybody's searches and people who *do* try to list them all would be jerks.
