Which T series for girlfriend?
Which T series for girlfriend?
Well, initally I was going to hand her over my old 760ED, but she doesn't like it because it's literally all banged up (it's been thrown and dropped a hundred times). So, now I'm looking at older T-series laptops (T2x).
Her budget is $500. She loves to listen to music, and burn cd's so a big HD is a must (I could probably upgrade though...right?). RAM is easy upgradable, so it's not an issue. And a miniPCI slot for wireless would be awesome (but not expected...I have a PCMCIA card ready to go). A warranty would also be a plus, but again, not expected.
So, what T-series is suitable for her?

Pretty colours, well spaced keys and did I mention the colour? Not too sure on the specs though but the chicks will dig it.

There is a sale on T23's on ebay currently...going for dirt cheap as they are just off lease and come with some degree of warranty left on there...
RAM and HDD is easily upgradeable, and sub 1.5Ghz, should be plenty for what you described.
Although, the only kicker is video, if you require slight gaming then, you might wanna consider a newer model, however, for general DVD / divx / xvid playback, a t23 should be good as far as specs are concerned.

I think the "Diamond" model might just be the most expensive laptop on the market also...GoEatFood wrote:not a t series but, if you want a cool looking laptop for your girlfriend...check out www.tulip-ego.com

Firstly, that TulipEgo thing is the fugliest laptop design I've ever seen in my life and probably one of the dumbest ideas ever.
A $500 budget is going to be tough to stay within if you're looking for a good quality laptop. With that budget, an iPod might make a better tech gift for her.
Staying off topic, if you're looking for a design she'll love, consider the Vaio S Series laptop (awesome awesome laptop, my sister has this and it's incredibly sleek and functional) or an HP Pavilion dv1010us (don't like the sharp edge of the palm rest though) or look at an Apple iBook (all girls love Apples). The Dell Inspiron 700m also looks sharp... all very media-friendly laptops for the music fan. Except for the Vaio, they can all be found for $999.
Anyway, I know I completely didn't answer your question. Hopefully somebody more familiar with IBM's complete line of laptops will be able to help. I would suggest that you make absolutely sure to find out if she really likes the style of a ThinkPad and would want one for herself because the worst gifts in the world are the expensive ones that you didn't want.

Oh, I'm here just marveling at a bunch of men trying to figure out what a woman wants in a notebook (All girls love Apples? Oh, please!). Nevertheless, I do agree with that particular poster that the OP needs to involve his girlfriend in the purchase decision. A notebook is not a fashion accessory even though I am fond of the LBD-basics color scheme.Leon wrote:NONNY... where are you when we need you! :-)
