Horrible ton why?

Hi,
i have a problem with my T42, sometimes I get a horrible noise. I think the noise is not produced from the speakers. It's a high pitched sound. It's only appearing when windows is up and running, never accured when booting. But i can't establish why it's comming, last time it accured when I closed the lid.can anyone help me?

From what part of the laptop is this noise coming?
Is it a beep? Whine? Buzz? Rattle?
You are going to need to narrow it down a bit before we can be of much help.

Hi,
like I said it only appears spantanous. It appears to comming from the right side under the keyboard. Near backspace.
The volume is like a normal bios beep.
It's beep, but it sounds scratchy, not like a normal bios/ windows sound.
There is no cd in the drive nor dvd.

Remove the CD drive for a while, and let us know if it still happens then.

Now, without the cd drive the tone come back, today!

Normally there is an event "beep" when the system goes into stand-by. Could that be what you are hearing?

Open up the volume control panel and select Advanced options. Lower / mute the microphone input and see if that helps.
