T42FVU Purchase Deicision Help Needed...IBM.com or others?

#1 Post by nowstime » Thu Jun 17, 2004 3:33 pm

Hi~

I didn't know purchasing a notebook was this hard...total pain...

I'm very interested in the new IBM T42 FVU...the specs are; 1.7GHz Pentium M, 256MB, 40GB, DVD/CD-RW, Windows XP Pro, 14.1" TFT SXGA+.

I wish it had blue tooth but the ones with BT are too much for me...

Back to the point...

Is buying from IBM.com worth the extra money?...the FVU model is going for around $2100 including tax at IBM.com...but Mwave.com is selling it for $1934 including shipping...LACC.com had it for $1885 but they're sold out...

I asked Mwave if they oftfer returns or refunds...they said NOPE..."you will have to deal with the manufacture directly..."...so this kinda worries me just in case I get a laptop with bunch of errors...

Could anybody help me out and give me an straight answer to my problem...

And finally...did the T42 (14.1" screen) overcome the previous problems T41 experienced? such as hard noise, rundll.exe problem and right side of keyboard moving...?

and is it worth getting a bad [censored] laptop and use it for 3 or more years such as the T42p?

I got the 2378-FVU model from ibm.com for $1724 before tax when they had the 15% discount a few weeks ago. You can still get it for $1826 before tax with the 10% discount through the IBM shareholder purchase program.
