Hello
I have a thinkpad t42. Iit stopped suddenly. It doesn't want to power on . Even when I connect the battery led does not light. I tested the charger and it works. I disassembled the laptop to test if there was current in the motherboard and it has 16,8v (normal).
Could you help me?
Thank you
Thinkpad t42 wont start

Re: Thinkpad t42 wont start
Hmm, I posted this already but my message seems to have disappeared. You need to check the following items in this order :
(1) Suspect the mechanical parts
(a) the power switch
(b) the servo (mercury switch?) that keeps the laptop alive once the switch is pressed
(2) Suspect the voltage regulator(s), they often burn out
(a) they have a distinctive look and may be easy to find (google 'voltage regulator'), make sure you logic board is getting 5v, 3.3v, or whatever form the voltage regulator.
(3) adjkula66 has a diagram of all the fuses on the motherboard, you might check them with a meter to see if they are still all working here :

I would think that SOME LED (i.e. bluetooth, 802.11, hard drive) must turn on if your power switch and voltage regulator are working. When the voltage regulator fails the device often acts dead.
Good luck!

Lots of thinkpads (10+) but I would never be so stupid as to list them all because that would spam everybody's searches and people who *do* try to list them all would be jerks.
