#1 Post by atct86 » Fri May 06, 2005 11:36 pm

I noticed that when i upgraded my BIOS, that I could change my model number.

What is this for?

Should i do this since i upgraded my processor, hd, and wifi card?

Since I had my system board replaced, I have no model number at all. Maybe that's what it's for.

Maybe the automatic software updater grabs the model number from BIOS for updates, perhaps there's some utility in changing it for that purpose too...

Kenn,

Bill's response was to atct86 asking if he should change his numbers due to the fact that he had upgraded his CPU.

You should take your unit to a repair facility and have them add the correct numbers for you, unless you have an earlier T series machine in which case I can send you the tool.

Won't work on a T4X series machine however.

Thanks James,

I do have a T42, so I think I'll hold off on doing anything until I absolutely need to. Is there any practical reason why it would be important to have the model # or unit serial in bios?

Thanks
