Very HOT T41....while watching Movie...

#1 Post by T400plus » Mon Jun 03, 2013 6:37 am

 MY 2ghz T41 (normally 47-48 C) gets hot to 80 c when I watch a movie.I was tould the fan is NOT geared for watching movies?. waht is that.

IT is a old 1.6 GHZ T41 which I souped upto 2 GHZ and I am undervolting it to 1.132V anyway. There is NO heat connection on the GPU if I am NOT mistaken. Can I get a better fan?.
DO i Have to use my T400 to watch a movie?.(which also heats up to 60 anyway).

Hmm, my T43p doesn't go over 57C when watching movies, flash, AVI or whatever.

I use the T43p cooler with the fan from a T43 Intel long cooler, quite a weak, but quiet fan.

If your T41 get as hot as 80C, something must be wrong with the cooler, what GPU do you have? what cooler exactly (FRU number)?

it is a 32MB radeon cpu. and a short fan.
The machine is NOT here ,I will get the details of model number from the laptop cover and post.
IT was a 1.6GHZ 512 MB machine which I souped up to 2 GHZ and 1.5 GB memory.I also upgraded the HD to 160 GB after the original 60 GB gave out.

Ok, a short fan is a short fan, more or less.

The GPU shouldn't get very hot in that system, unless you are running 3d graphics.
You could try out IBM_ECW so you can control GPU power states, it can undervolt the CPU and control the fan as well.

What I'd do is take out the cooler and clean it, maybe the heatsink is blocked by dust?
And then mount it again with some high quality cooler paste.

I have a 14" T43p with a 1.6Ghz Pentium M overclocked to 2.13GHz and undervolted, it didn't undervolt all that well though, can't remember exactly but around 1.2v@2133MHz
It has the T43p long fan, with the original noisy fan, it rarely get hotter then 60C, when watching movies.
