Lenovo Laptop Screen blank after docking station removal

#1 Post by fido » Mon Jun 10, 2013 4:30 pm

Lenovo Thinkpad 4236: new November 2012:
When I remove the laptop from the docking station and flip open the lid; about 50% of the time the screen stays blank and will not come on unless I reboot. I've tried FN F7, and a bunch of other stuff. This is really annoying as I add/remove several times daily for meetings at work. There is a 21" Dell monitor connected to the docking station which seems to work reliably and comes on quickly when I hit the docking station power button.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Fn+F7 usually works but if you have Presentation Manager installed and enabled, then it could be asking you to select a specific option. A Catch-22 situation; in other words, you'll need to be able to see the screen in order to click on the option to activate the screen. The solution is to change the Fn+F7 settings to get Presentation Manager out of the way.

Another thing to double check is in the BIOS. Look at the Display options and set the default screen (boot display device) to LCD.

Ray,
Thanks for the tips. I'll give them a whirl. I know how to check the BIOS but no idea how to manipulate the FN-F7 to adjust the Presentation Manager. If you have any thoughts on that please let me know.

Rgds,
Fido
