Which cooling fan should be used for a 39T5451 motherboard?

#1 Post by linuxthinkpadfan » Wed Jun 12, 2013 11:38 pm

I've bought a replacement motherboard for my T42 (motherboard part [39T5451). It has an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 GPU under an aluminum heatspreader. The cpu cooling fan assembly from my kaput motherboard is a "short" cooling fan that doesn't cool the GPU. Can I safely use it for this motherboard and GPU? Or, do I need the "long" cooling fan assembly?

Thanks very much for your advice!

Yes, we have many T42's and T42p's at our house, all with 9600 and fireGL, and all of them need a long fan.

Lots of thinkpads (10+) but I would never be so stupid as to list them all because that would spam everybody's searches and people who *do* try to list them all would be jerks.
