Yet another T43 firmware post...

#1 Post by Ken Edmonds » Sat Jun 22, 2013 6:48 pm

I've just acquired a mint T43 for free which is my kind of deal. It was my sort of sister in laws and she had a new hard drive fitted by an idiot who's now gone out of business. Bios error 2010 and half a dozen missing drivers so painfully slow. I must have a look at the old drive to see if it's really dead.

The drive is in the firmware list and I've downloaded the ISO so that's easy enough. Does updating the firmware lose the data? It's not really a problem if it does but I'd rather it didn't. I may want to wipe the drive and start again anyway but I'm not sure yet - it's only been here for 30 minutes.

I did a firmware update for a mate a couple of years ago on a couple of Maxtor desktop SATA drives which said it would lose all data but it didn't and they were fine afterwards.

A firmware update will not affect the data on the drive.

What HDD is it anyway?

Your best bet is likely wiping it and installing a fresh OS.

That's what I call service! Thanks for a superfast reply.

I guessed that would be the answer but thought it was best to check before I went ahead. The hard drive's an IC25N060ATMR04-0 which is in the list of firmware updates.

I may well wipe the drive anyway but I want to check she's not left anything on it she might want and it would be good if it worked quicker while I'm doing it. It's so slow she's hardly used it recently and could have forgotten something important.

Baffled now. Updated the firmware using the CD iso and still got bios error 2010. Could I have missed an option somewhere?

Firmware update never did anything for me with a Hitachi drive, while other people reported success.

YMMV applies, and then some, I guess...

You can apply the modded BIOS and remove the warning altogether. That's what I've been doing for years now.
