What does p in T42p or T43p mean?
What does p in T42p or T43p mean?
Guys,
I bump into a discussion with my friend.
He think p means powerful and fast, more expensive too.
I think they just use high speed hard drive, high speed CPU etc, I can configure a regular one with 7200rpm hard drive, more RAM and faster CPU to get the same thing and save money.
Is there any special tech p seriese use enhance their performance? Or they just use faster hard drive, CPU and Mem.
Thanks.

I think P is really supposed to mean that the model comes with the hard drive protection system. It will park the hard drives heads if it detects sudden acceleration.
This does add to the cost of the system, but AFAIK has nothing to do with having specific components or a finger print reader. It only specifically refers to the hard drive protection system.

The P got nothing to do with this feature.emorphien wrote:I think P is really supposed to mean that the model comes with the hard drive protection system. It will park the hard drives heads if it detects sudden acceleration.

According to IBMs website, the active hard drive protection system is available on "select" T, X and so on models.danny_isr wrote:The P got nothing to do with this feature.emorphien wrote:I think P is really supposed to mean that the model comes with the hard drive protection system. I have a T42 2378R4U, the lowest costing T42 express model and it has the hard drive protection system.emorphien wrote:I think P is really supposed to mean that the model comes with the hard drive protection system. It will park the hard drives heads if it detects sudden acceleration.

you sure you don't have a T42p(rotected) then ?jspsh wrote:

P models only offer one component not available on non-P T-series, and that is the workstation-class graphics chip. Other T-series graphics chips may actually be faster (9600 v. FireGL T2), but the P models usually have double the video ram of the next best option, and are certified for use with engineering and design applications that require such things.
Yes, P is for pricey.

As I know, "P" has
- most of them come standard with ultra high speed 7200rpm harddrive
- 14.1" SXGA+ or 15" UXGA(only available in "P")
- 128mb graphic card with FireGl feature
That's it.
The advantages of "P" that're obvious are 15" UXGA screen and 128mb VRAM wth FireGl feature (if you need it). You cannot get these in non-P
For me, "P" stands for "Pretty/Perfect Screen". I love UXGA in 15" with Flexview

I like this.plucky duck wrote:P - pricey
But actually - p stands for "professional"
It means that all components and drivers have been tested with several professional apps such as Autocad, Alias, Maya, ProEngineer, etc.
Anecdotally - IBM usually has only done this with top-of-the line machines.
