Dock II second HDD

I just won a T40 (XP Pro) w/Dock II in an eBay auction. I plan to use an Ultra 2000 second hard drive adaptor with a 20G drive to have a copy of 98se accessible in the Dock II. I need 98 for a couple of educational programs for my kid. Is this a reasonable approach? Can I load 98 into the Dock's drive without affecting the T40's primary drive and OS? I haven't been able to find a reference for the best approach to this problem. Thanks for any suggestions or guidance.

In theory this should be ok. I used to have a 2nd HDD in my Dock II but one day on boot up my machine decided to try and load Windows from the 2nd HDD and it totally corrupted my primary HDD. Annoyingly I didn't realise what had happened at the time so I put my other TP in the Dock II and corrupted the drive in that machine too

I was able to use Rapid Restore to rebuild my machines but since then, I haven't kept a HDD in the UltraBay on the Dock.

Have you abandoned using the HDD w/98 in the Dock? Your experience does little to raise my confidence level. I had initially thought of solving this problem with a dual boot approach, but I was reading that to do that, one needed to be sure to install 98 first. Apparently, 98's drivers will overwrite XP's if the installation is done with XP first. It sounds like something similar happened to your systems.
