T40 - Driver for Unauthorised WiFi Card - Broadcom BCM4318
T40 - Driver for Unauthorised WiFi Card - Broadcom BCM4318
I have a T40 running XP with the 1802 error due to a dead CMOS battery which has probably caused the original no-1802 fix to be lost.
I am re-running the 1802 fix but need the XP driver for the "unauthorised" PCI WiFi card.
The PCI WiFi card is a Broadcom "DW1300" BCM4318 KFBG
I have searched the internet but its full of people having difficulty obtaining the correct XP driver.
Also will XP be able to automatically find the correct driver. I am currently using a PCMCIA WiFi card with the T40 so I don't know if this will cause a conflict with the PCI WiFI card?
Thanks

Have you tried using the Broadcom driver download center?
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

It looks like its nothing to do with Broadcom and you need to pay $29.99 for any drivers downloaded.

Dell and HP used these cards on circa 2003-2005 laptops, try their websites.

Oops! You're right, guess I didn't pay enough attention to what I was looking at. Take a look at this page from the Broadcom web site: http://www.broadcom.com/products/Wireless-LAN
As you already know, neither IBM nor Lenovo ever used this adapter, so they don't offer any drivers for it. You will likely have to use a driver either from Broadcom or Dell, as it looks like your adapter is a Dell OEM part.

Re: T40 - Driver for Unauthorised WiFi Card - Broadcom BCM4318
I'm now using the Broadcom PCI WiFi card....the drivers were already installed!!!!
It looks like the 1802 unauthorised WiFi card error was due to the dead CMOS battery...so the original owner must have done a "no-1802" CMOS fix which was then lost when the CMOS battery died.
Is there a way to see what Broadcom driver is actually installed in the T40...just in case I install a fresh copy of XP.
I actually downloaded a number of "possible" Broadcom drivers...ver 5.10.79.14 seemed like a possible good candidate but I could find no definite "this definately works" comment on the internet.
The "No-1802" fix is very easy to run...I used the Command-Tab bootable CD. When the CD boots the A: prompt is displayed and you just type No-1802....but there is no "successful" or "done" comment...so it sort of looks like nothing has happened...but it worked!!!

Check this out: http://www.mini-laptop-accessories.com/ ... -8934.html
It has a drivers-link.
It also says that card does not work on IBM/HP...
OTOH: this Dell-driver might work: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/ ... erid=02G60

Re: T40 - Driver for Unauthorised WiFi Card - Broadcom BCM4318
I checked out the T40 driver listing and its uses a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter Date 23/03/2006 Driver version 4.40.19.0
When I searched on Broadcom and 4.40.19.0 there is a useful HP Business Support Center "Broadcom Wireless LAN driver" listing which provides all the revision history etc
The HP file for ver 4.40.19.0 is called sp33008.exe. If I run this is it just the driver which is installed or does it also install a HP Wireless Utility...or can you select just the driver?
There have been lots of revisions since ver 4.40.19.0 but this version seems to be working OK on my T40. Would Windows "Custom" Update identify if I needed to install an updated wireless driver?
Thanks

If it's working OK, I would leave well enough alone.g8tzl wrote:this version seems to be working OK on my T40.
Probably not.g8tzl wrote:Would Windows "Custom" Update identify if I needed to install an updated wireless driver?

Agreed, its best to leave well alone. However, I was thinking that it would be a good idea to install a fresh copy of XP....so I will need to get hold of the original PCI wireless driver.
I'm a bit reluctant to run the HP sp33008.exe file in case it installs some HP stuff..although I guess I could always delete it..but maybe it will mess up the registry or something? I guess I could then use System Restore?

Throw that Dell/HP junk out and get an IBM-approved card, such as this Intel 2200BG:

Drivers from Lenovo or Intel available.
