Maintanence Utility for Thinkpad

#1 Post by lautamas » Mon May 09, 2005 1:33 am

Hi guys,
I have a thinkpad T40 (2373-75U). A technician replaced my MB when I was in the US and forgot to put in the serial number (maybe the model number as well?)

I'm now back in Indonesia and the Indonesian's IBM doesnt want to accept the reason and refused to reprogram my serial number. Altough I have proven them my proof of ownership, they still wont do it for me.

The problem just came up recently for me because it seems that Lenovo just applies the "check model" kinda think for all the downloaded software. So, I always come up with INVALID MACHINE error message everytime I want to install the newly updated drivers into my T40.

I am pretty sure that the IBM MAINTAINENCE UTILITY can help me out straighten out this problem. Can someone also walk me through the process on reprogramming the model and serial number?

oh, by the way, I would appriciate it if someone can share with me the tool. Please send to mipra@lautanmas.com.

Try it with the BIOS-Update Software, there you can enter a Serial Number as Option 3
IBM ThinkPad R51 1829-DRG
Intel P-M 1500 MHz
768 MB RAM

Sorry for my English, I speak german.

Which version of BIOS UPDATE are you talking about? I tried that and there is no way you can change the machine type and serial number.

I can change the model number. For ex, 2373-75U, I can change the 75U. However, in the bios update program, there is no option to change the 2373 part, even not the serial number
