#1 Post by douzi » Wed May 11, 2005 6:25 pm

I just received my 2379DXU. How long should i charge it before I start using it?

They always say to give it a full charge. I believe that's just in case the battery comes with a zero charge, and starting it up drains it to/past zero, which is a big no-no for Li-ion batteries. If you use the AC you'll be fine.

Mine came with a partially-charged battery (most are like that, since it's best to store then at partial-charge so they don't self-drain to zero) and I just left the AC in for a few minutes before starting up and letting it finish charging while I used it.

If you're worried, just let it charge to 100%. It should take less than an hour with a half-charged battery and a powered down system (it does charge faster with the power off).

So how do you like your thinkpad so far? :)

Thank you for the information.

I do not know about this yet, but feels like the laptop boots slower using battery than using AC, is that true? Any configuration I should change to make both fast? or faster? Except that, I like it.

That's absolutely true - when you're on battery the laptop throttles down to save power. You might have to go into the BIOS to change the setting for the boot-up speed (it'll be in the power settings), but once you load into windows you can click on the little battery gauge in the taskbar to specify whether you want the machine to run at full, adaptive, or slow speed when you're on battery and AC. Of course, the tradeoff between the settings is battery life.
