Dead pixel
Dead pixel
I got on dead pixel on my T42. I guess IBM will not cover for that. It is right in the middle of the screen, very easy to spot.
Yes, I have one near the bottom center of the screen. I think it developed after the 30-day period.
All my friends who have LCD monitors don't even have a single dead pixel... I feel so unlucky.
But then again, one dead pixel out of 1,470,000 pixels (4,410,000 subpixels!) on an SXGA+ LCD isn't so bad (technically good for industry standards.)
I've learned to ignore it for the most part now...

If you only spotted it after running programms that help you find them, then my opinion would be no. You normally won't notice them. If on the other hand you noticed it during "normal usage" of the thinkpad, then you have to consider how distracting it is.douzi wrote:Mine is only 3 days old. But I do not know if it is worth to exchange it. That will take too long.
But those are just my 0,0158 $
After almost a year of blissfully happy ownership, my T42 developed its first "bad" pixel, one solitary stuck-on green one. The good news is that at SXGA+ resolution, it's so friggin small that I have to hunt for it to see it.
Now, what's REALLY pissing me off is the small amount of "debris" that's managed to work its way behind the display itself. Pretty sure this is what I get for eating pistachios while computing, as I think the debris is small pieces of pistachio husk. That stuff gets everywhere.
Any suggestions on how to blow that crap out from within my display? Compressed (canned) air around the edges isn't doing the trick.

After a week of usage, the dead pixel really bugs me. I think I will go ahead return it and reorder another one. What's the process I should take? Should I pay for the return shipping?

I'm having the same experience. I received 2378FVU, but the dead pixel is located in the middle of LCD, 1.5 inches from the top. It's very noticeable and annoying. However, the customer service says that I have to pay for the shipping because the dead pixels are not more than 7 which is their policy if I want to return it and get refund.
I feel really bad...

Then you need to buy one from Bill, and pay his dead-pixel check.chbone wrote:If I don't need to pay the return shipping fee, I would like to old ten and select one I like and with no dad pixel, return them back with no charge! I really like to own a perfect notebook.
