T40 no picture or sound

#1 Post by Stricker » Thu Oct 31, 2013 10:26 am

I have a Thinkpad T40 that, when powered on, displays nothing on the screen. I have attempted to hook it up to two seperate monitors, both which claim to not be receiving any signal. My only clue that the laptop is indeed working, is the power on LED and a fan revving to what I assume is maximum speed. There are no audio clues, no beep codes to diagnose whatever is wrong, and spamming keys in an attempt to generate errors provides no audio feedback either.

Does anyone have any idea what to do? I've had it opened, cleaned out what little dust there was, nothing seems to be broken or missing.

Remove the RAM and turn it on.
If it gives an error beep, the RAM might be bad.
On the other hand, solder failure on the Radeon GPU is the most common fault of the T40 series.
