Hello, I recently purchased a T42 to play around with, and while I am waiting for it to be shipped, I am gathering up the various drivers I will need to install the OS.
The Lenovo page for driver downloads lists six possible drivers for my box, depending on the type of wireless interface it contains. In order to determine which interface my machine has, it tells me to to to the "Warranty Status" page to look up the part (FRU) number.
Unfortunately, their "Warranty Status" page is refusing to accept my s/n and model number, telling me, "Multiple results found. Kindly enter Machine Type & Serial to refine results." (it will also only let me enter four digits from the model number, not the full seven-digit sequence)
So, does anyone know a way to get access to the part numbers page? I know I could disassemble my laptop when it gets here, but I would at least like to get the poor thing working before I start taking it apart.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Welcome to the forum!
What's the full 7-character model number of that T42?

Re: How to determine WLAN type?
Hi jonzilla, welcome to Thinkpads.com!
If you enter your seven character type number here in the "Quick Path" box, it should tell you which adapter your machine left the factory with.
About the only way to know for sure what's in there now is to open it up and put eyes on it. Or, boot a Liniux LiveCD (USB) and see how it identifies the device.

Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Thanks guys. I've been poking around and found this manual for older thinkpads, and it listed the WLAN type: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ltwbook.pdf
I like the suggestion of the linux CD too, which I will probably do to verify this information.
