I am using Voyager 13.04 "Ubuntu" just the french version & it works fine my motherboard is IBM 1871AU current bios is the 1.24 version, have read on the ubuntu forums that if you have Grub 2 installed & run the following commands then you should be able to update.Have file from Lenovo saved 1.29 version non diskette saved in downloads folder
code:
linux16 (hd0,1)/boot/memdisk
intrd16 (hd0,1)/boot/biosupdate.img
boot
I plan on upgrading the 1.86 CPU to the 2.26 version & either 7200hdd or a "mod" with a ssd ..overall Linux runs with about anything installed,by far one of my favorite laptops .
Thank You

Welcome to the forum!
You can download and burn the ISO file to the CD, and boot from it and update your BIOS that way.

I second the welcome. Burning to cdrom works great. Or you can extract the data from the iso onto a bootable dos usb stick. Boot up the usb stick and flash from dos prompt. I have a whole collection of bioses on one usb stick.ajkula66 wrote:Welcome to the forum!

Re: Thinkpad T43 1871 Bios Upgrade Question "Linux Os Installed"
I don't trust updating BIOS from Windows, Linux or any OS. Much prefer updating from bootable CD or USB.
