S-Video Cable??

#1 Post by mbressman » Sat May 14, 2005 7:09 pm

I recently bought an IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-Q1U) and just assumed it would come with an S-Video cable (since all my old Dell system's did). Unfortunately, it didn't, and now I'm not entirely sure where to get one. First, I guess I have to decide what I need to get. Can someone help me out here? From what I can tell, most TV's, VCR's, DVD player's, projectors, etc. have RCA in ports (and I have RCA cables) so it seems that the best thing to get would be an S-Video to RCA cable. Does this seem right? If this is the case, can someone point me in the right direction for where to get such a cable/converter? Does IBM make one specifically for their systems? If not, anyone know of any cheap ones online anywhere? Thanks for any help in advance!!

Ideally, if you can use a straight s-video to s-video cable, you should have the best picture. Many projectors, TVs, etc will have an s-video plug.

The standard s-video plug can be had at any Radio Shack, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

If you need an S-video to RCA cable,

BTW - an S-video cable is less than $5. Not worth buying online.

Radio Shack wanted to charge me a lot more than that...where would you recommend I go to get one that's as cheap as $5?

Go back in there & get the radio shack brand. They probably tried to sell you that $35 "Monster Cable" crap (gold plated & sexy packaging) which does nothing for the signal. They're like Quad Shielded as well, so your picture won't loose any quality if a neutron bomb explodes near by...

Target, K-Mart, Home Depot. (Wal Mart too - but you'd be contributing to the abuse of workers everywhere)

RCA and GE are both cheap (same company - 2 brands)

Funny! Around here we call it "redneck-mart!"
